Summer 2010 Intern Positions
Versabar Houston will offer three summer intern positions for engineering students pursuing degrees in Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering. These positions will be for between 10 and 12 weeks during the summer recess.
The intern positons will be as follows:
- Rigging Engineer (Mechanical or Civil/Structural). The intern will work with the Houston rigging group performing rigging design in accordance with Versabar and Industry Standards, generation of rigging layouts and drawings, fabrication coordination and manufacturing for custom rigging components, rigging system pricing and field exposure to rigging practices and procedures. Candidates for this position must have taken a theory of structures and/or mechanics of materials class and be confident with static analysis of determinate structures and beam design.
- Testing Engineer (Mechanical or Civil/Structural). The intern will work with the Houston testing group performing engineering and project support in performing proof load testing of rigging components and third party specialty items. This position will require considerable interface with field operations at the Houston facility.
- Equipment Engineer (Mechanical Engineer). The intern will work with the Houston equipment manager providing engineering support on equipment maintenance and upgrades. Versabar has a large rental fleet of high capacity hydraulic winches used offshore in support of critical marine construction activities and which must be maintained to the highest standard. In addition the Versabar plant has a number cranes and specialty machine shop machines which must also be maintained and repaired
Intern Renumeration
The renumeration package will be as follows:
- Salary payment at the rate of $15 per hour for all hours worked. A 40-hour minimum work week Monday to Friday is the Norm.
- Free-issue accommodation in Houston within a 10 to 15 mile radius of the Versabar Houston facility. The accommodation will consist of a furnished 1-bedroom apartment and will include all utilities.
- Reimbursement of travel expenses will be paid for one round trip from the intern’s registered home address to the free-issued accommodation. A car will be required for travel around Houston which will not be provided by Versabar.
